WHAT IS THE 59L PROJECT?
The 59L Flathead engine was the engine that inspired us to start the Flat-Spot Organization. The engine was originally installed in a 1948 Ford F-1 Truck. The engine was short lived in our hands and sadly broke a valve seat loose. Making the engine un-drivable until something was repaired. Requiring a tear down and likely full restoration, we opted to find an engine that was already rebuilt. As rebuilding this engine would have taken more than we had in budget and surprisingly more than it would have cost us to find a replacement motor in the early 2000s. Rather than fix the engine, it was pulled out and set aside. Being replaced with a fresh Mercury 255 Flathead v8. Leaving the 59L engine without a real use.
In storage for some time, we got the engine back out and wanted to do something with it that would best further the education and awareness of antique Ford Flatheads. So, we opted to turn the engine into a Running Display. Something our Org. can take out to events, create programs to inspire today’s youth and others to join the hobby. Most of all create video content that will allow us to teach remotely via our growing social media Platforms and this website. The best life we can offer this little engine is that of education and inspiring others to keep this hobby alive. We’re very excited to see the outstanding amount of support we have gotten to help us carry this project forward. If you would like to help us out there is a donation button below. Please consider even a small donation. Every little bit goes towards helping us get this project finished so we can start it’s mission to help other Flathead Enthusiasts as well as find new ones to join the hobby.
