WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR MORE HISTORY ON THIS COMPANY IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING PLEASE CONTACT US
What we know: We currently have almost no information on this companies history which is shocking. Just a couple bits here and there and not enough to really fill in the big gaps.
Earl Evans moved around quite a bit. He was @ one time only over 2 blocks away from Cook’s, then he eventually settled in Whittier. Then on Seman in So. El Monte under Gene Ohly’s current ownership from 2008-2012. After Earl “Pappy” Evans passed away we know that the company was sold by his wife. Gene focused on the company being a machine shop with big plans of relaunching the Speed Equipment line.
I did find a message he had posted online regarding the relaunch of the company in 2008 saying “The flathead patterns are NOT destroyed, they are in fair condition”. Sadly the company only survived until around 2012. We have no idea what happen to it after they closed their doors. It’s possible that once he got into the project the repairs needed to the tooling where just more then they could handle. We have seen the same sad conclusion with the Weiand and Fenton tooling.
Below is a safety video done for the Road runners car club that featured Evans.
Early Evans 2×2 Soft Nose
Status: No longer in production
Earl Evans flathead intake manifolds and heads were regarded as one of the best brands, if not the best brand of flathead speed equipment available. The intake manifold you have is an early version from one of Earl Evans first runs.
Evans 2×2 Hard Nose W/ Script
Status: No longer in production
The later 2 X 2 Evans intake manifolds had the Evans name embossed on the front and the intake manifolds were sold already polished right from the factory.
Evans 3×2
Status: No longer in production
Although pretty common these intakes have an amazing design and where well cast.
Evans 4×2
Status: No longer in production
This intake maintains a medium collectablity because it has never been reproduced and because of how unique the design is over other bulky 2×4 intakes. Just a beautiful piece.
